Kommunikasjon mellom skipper Wilhelm og værmann Marc:

Hi to all !
Enclosed the latest weather report with a good forecast for a transit from Greenland to Iceland on Saturday morning. Seems like everything now depends on the ice-situation. One challenge; The heavy easterly wind today and tomorrow might close the coast again. One day at the time.

Best regards Wilhelm

Iolaire Forecast - 6 August 2015
Latest Position: 60.6/-46.0

Dear Wilhelm,
I think we are heading towards the solution!
This mornings run of the model showed an acceptable solution in order for you guys to make a good crossing. there might be a few spells with some stronger winds but at this stage it does not look too strong anymore.

So lets start with the winds are your location:

-today: 6 August: weak variable wind directions 2-4kt - after 18utc the wind will start to increase and turns to the NE to ENE - due to local topography the wind direction might be a little off and also, due to funneling in the fjords, gusts might be suddenly stronger- for the remainder of the night: 10-15kt gusting 25-30kt

-tomorrow Friday: 7 August: NE 20-25kt gusting 35kt after 15/18utc gradually decreasing and dropping away.

-Saturday: 8 August: at the beginning of the wind the wind out the fjords is weak from variable directions but from 18utc approximately the wind should turn to the SW and increases up to 4-8kt. I would advice to take advantage of this situation and leave Greenland! If necessary use the motor, in order to catch the pressure a little but further out in sea. I hope the ice situation has not changed too much due to the windy conditions during the previous day.

The rest of this routing is based on good progress and the prevailing, forecasted winds:
Sunday:
-at 9utc near 60.8/-41: SSW 10-15kt
-at 21utc near 60.8/-39: SW 8-12kt

Monday:
-at 9utc: 61/-37: WNW to NW 8-12kt
-at 21utc: 61/-35: WNW 8-12kt

Tuesday:
-at 9utc: 61.5/-33: SW 10-15kt now the wind will increasing and veering
-at 21utc: 62//-31: WSW to WNW: 20kt average. Gradually backing and decreasing

Wednesday:
-at 9utc: 62.5/-29: SSW 6-10kt again increasing
-at21utc: 63/-26: SSW 15-20kt tempo 25kt

Thursday:
-at 9utc wind remains from SSW 20-25kt

Tomorrow we will run a software routing for this same track and compare it with this one-fingers crossed that the next runs of the model confirm this routing.

Enjoy your time and take care in the stronger winds tonight and tomorrow.

Marc
